This page is to give you some idea as to the inner workings of Gnomebard's and Drowmonk's minds. On some things we almost totally agree, and on some we have completely different thoughts on the subject.
Comics:
Gnomebard's picks:
Drowmonk's picks:
Both in agreement:
- Anything by Brian Michael Bendis. In particular any of the "100%" Bendis stuff. That is to say "art and story by..."
- Empire: by Mark Waid and Barry Kitson. (Look for the trade paperback.)
- Maus: by Art Spiegelman (parts 1 and 2).
- The old Green Lantern/Green Arrow comics. (There is a 2 volume set available from DC comics.)
- The Understanding Comics trilogy: by Scott McCloud.
- Anything by Joss Whedon. Period.
- Anything by Aaron Williams. Also period.
- Peter David
is a safe bet. I always check out his newest comic creations when ever I see one. I (Gnomebard) am liking his new X-Factor comic, it's my favorite of his right now.
- Anything with the Silver Surfer or Doctor Strange in it. We just can't get enough.
- 100 Bullets: by Eduardo Risso and Brian Azzarello. A gritty crime drama/spy thriller that still has me guessing.
- Superman: Red Son: By Mark Miller, David Jonson and Kilian Plunkett. I (Gnomebad) usuly don't like Superman. *The readers gasp* but this comic takes Superman and makes him an enamy of the United States. On this same vain I also recomend...
- Lex Luther: Man of Steel: by Brian Azzarello and Lee Bermejo. In this book you see Superman from Lex Luther's point of view. It's quite compelling, and it's cool to see Superman drawn as a villain (very scary).
- Sin City: by Frank Miller. frank will probably go down in history as my generation's Will Eisner. You have to read sin city to apricate how good it is.
Movies:
Gnomebard's picks:
- Seven Samurai: by Akira Kurosawa. This movie is worth makeing time to see it. And you do have to make time, the movie is 3 hours long, but every minute is a work of art.
Drowmonk's picks:
Both in agreement:
- Shot 'em Up: Guns, sex, explosions...more guns. This movie has everything you need.
- Anything by Robert Rodriguez (that is rated PG-13 or more.)
- Jim Henson's The Laberinth: Plot: An emo girl summons a dark sorcerer to take her baby brother away form her. She thought the sorcerer was not real, he was. Now she want her brother back. The sorcerer says "What's said is said." And then taking pity on the girl he gives her the chance to get her brother back, but she must first get to his castle at he center of the Labyrinth.
- The Gamers: by The Dead Gentlemen. This movie and it's sequel (Gamers: Dorkness Rising) almost define of what it is to be a gamer.
- Fight Club: The most deceiving movie tile we have come across yet. People tell me that the book is beter, but I have a hard time believing it.
- The Underworld movies: From the look of the movie, to the lines and the action, this movie series is a must see.
- Broken Saints: by Brooke Burgess, Ian Kirby and Andrew West. 4 seemingly random people, in vastly different parts of the world, have the same vision of the coming apocalypse. How will they find each other? And will they be able to stop the apocalypse befor it's to late? Find out!
- The films of Alex Proyas.
- Oh Star Wars and the Lord of the Rings: Duh.
Face to Face games:
Gnomebard's picks:
- Stratego.
- Magic the Gathering: TCG. I was a fan boy back in the "old days." I was never all that good at the game, to expensive. (on a side note I am looking to complete a "card art" collection, so if your interested in selling some old cards drop me a line.)
Drowmonk's picks:
Both in agreement:
- Kill Doctor Lucky.
- Anachronism: TCG
- All table top RPG's: Our favorites are: D&D 3.0-3.5, Grimm, and Hero System.
- apples to apples.
